REVEAL God’s Reign in Christ

We are a people welcomed.

Welcomed into God’s kingdom as Jesus says in Luke chapter 17:

Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed, nor will they say, 'Look, here it is!' or 'There!' for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you."
(Luke 17:20-21)

We are a people welcomed...

into the existing kingdom--that’s here already

into the coming kingdom--that’s not yet consummated

and into the eternal kingdom--that’ll last forever

OK...take a deep breath, because this is incredible. Jesus says God’s kingdom arrived on earth with him and that we’re invited to enter in--today! We hear a lot of folks talking about God’s kingdom being in the future and up in heaven on some cloud. They go on to say that we have to wait until we die to get in.

But that’s not right. Look: it’s here now.

Jesus said God’s reign is at hand and Jesus’ work is focusing the lens, bringing it into view. We’re a product of his work, citizens of God’s already and not yet kingdom. He says others will join us, so we’re pointing them his way, whenever and wherever we see him.

Like Jesus did.

We all understand that this is a messed-up world and things just aren’t like they’re supposed to be.

But God’s kingdom is here already.

We believe this because Jesus said it and because we’re living differently now that we’ve entered in.

We’re loving people in ways that are totally beyond ourselves. We’re serving people in a manner that didn’t interest us before. We care more about God’s creation and issues of social justice...issues that used to bore us.

And here’s a little secret...WE CAN’T TAKE CREDIT FOR ANY GOOD THAT WE’RE DOING!

Truth is, it’s not us at all, but God’s Spirit living in us that causes us to live this way.

And that’s a sure sign that the kingdom is here now--people living in unique ways by the power of the indwelling Spirit of God. It’s our responsibility to not only live this way, but point people to the reason we do and invite them to enter the kingdom as well.

REVEAL God’s Reign in Christ is the third step in our Purpose & Process; repeatable actions we take to accomplish God’s desires for our lives and church. It’s not a formula, it’s really more of a mystery...and it’s what the church equips and supports us to do. This is the role our church plays in the bigger story of God.

REVEAL God’s Reign in Christ is us representing God’s kingdom; serving the redemptive purposes of the kingdom and allowing people to experience kingdom life. All the while, with the power and grace of God’s Spirit, we point people to the King of the kingdom...Jesus Christ!
