Work of Christ Church
Work of Christ Church (WoCC) is not an entity located in a facility or an institutional organization with tons of activities. Instead, we are a gathered people, brought together by a common calling to be people sent of God.
We are not an institution, we are not a building, we are not a vendor of religious goods and services.
We are a people sent...we are missionaries.
But WoCC isn’t primarily for the people that are already here - it’s for those yet to come. We believe that God has sent us specifically to the people of south Asheville and feel a bit like the apostle Paul must have felt in the missional narrative of Acts 17. Here, Paul visits the great city of Athens and scripture indicates:
…his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols
His spirit was provoked…and it compelled him to act. Paul pulls out his best arguments and works hard at communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ in a manner that the Athenians can easily relate to.
We hope to work as hard for our community.
Paul’s spirit was provoked…and he responded by removing cultural barriers that stood between the Athenians and the gospel. His provoked spirit compelled him to work diligently to see the people of Athens reconciled to God.
We hope to remove barriers standing between people and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Paul looked around Athens and found it full of idols, but instead of retreating to the safe church culture of Jerusalem or Antioch, Paul rushes headlong into the city and with amazing grace proclaims the gospel with cultural intelligence, dogged determination and loving concern.
We hope to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ with amazing grace in our community.
As missionaries, our greatest desire is to join you, to relate to and enjoy you, to love and bless you, to encourage and challenge you – in the places and the circumstances of your life. Like Jesus does.
Of course, you’re always welcome to join us, too. Perhaps alongside us as we volunteer in the Reuter Family YMCA, cook up some food at one of our family neighborhood cookouts, or gather to serve others on Sunday mornings.
We welcome all who are interested in Jesus, all who have been disappointed with the institution of the church, all who are desperate for hope, all who have it really good right now, all who are realizing that their plan isn’t working, all who sense something is wrong, all who feel disconnected, all who are struggling with guilt, all who couldn’t be better, all who feel powerless to control sin, all who are deep in debt, all who are curious, all who are tired, all who desire to serve and bless others, all who are fed up with religion, all who want to hear God’s truth, all who need some good news!
